志奈子さんの笑顔にまつわる興味深いリレーエッセイを拝読しながら、私も今回は「笑顔」繋がりで写真のお話を。
振り返ると、今までたくさんの方々の「笑顔」の瞬間を撮影してきました。
フワッとその笑顔の瞬間を泡の中に封じ込めるような思いで。。。
撮影のお仕事をしていると、様々な笑顔と遭遇します。
カメラを構えられると、人はどうしても顔に力が入り、緊張ぎみな笑顔になりがち。なので、撮影者の私もお仕事とはいえ少々ハメを外すオヤジ風スタイルのスナップ撮影で楽しくコミニュケーションとりながら撮らせていただくお客様の笑顔がとても好きです。そのときは私も楽しくてテンション高めなので、ついカット数も増え結果良いものが撮れるという一粒で二度おいしい効果が！(笑)
例えば、お仕事上こちらが要求して笑顔を作っていただくこともあります。慣れた方は、カメラを向けられてもスナップ写真のように自然な笑顔や、絵になる魅力的な笑顔を見せてくださいます。
作り笑顔は別として、シチュエーションによって笑顔の種類も変わってきます。写真でみるそれらの表情を言葉で細分化するとこんな感じです。
ブライダル撮影などでよく遭遇する幸せいっぱいの微笑み。
子供たちの屈託のない無邪気な笑顔。
はにかみ笑い
驚きの笑い。
感動の笑い。
そして、泣き笑い。
また、アングルや、カメラ目線、目線外しの写真によっても印象が随分変わってきます。
ただ、どの笑顔であっても写真から感じられるのはプラスの波動。それは、何年経っても色褪せることのないキラキラした美しさのようです。
笑顔の写真は、一瞬にして見る人の心を癒します。あの有名な生命保険のCMのように（笑）
何気ない見慣れた景色が写真の背景であっても、そこに写る人の表情が笑顔であれば、見慣れた背景も美しく輝いて見えることってありませんか。
笑顔は、世界を明るく照らし幸せをもたらします。。
ふと、カメラマンになりたての頃に思い描いていた夢を思い出しました。
世界を旅しながら、出会った人々の笑顔（ポートレート）を撮影していつか世界中の笑顔を集めた写真展を開きたいと思っていたことを。

Message of the Week
Hi! I'm Hako Kokubo, photographer. Having read Shinako's essay on linguistic approach to our smiles (Members' Blog #25), I'd also love to talk about "smiles" in my pictures. I have been taking pictures of numerous people's smiles; I feel it is like wrapping the moment of smile up in the bubble.
People tend to feel nervous when they face the camera, so I do my best to help them feel relaxed by saying some dad jokes or doing something funny on purpose and I feel very, very happy and excited when my customers show me their lovely smiles! I cannot help taking more and more pictures, among which the best shot comes out. Sometimes I request my customers to smile. Those who are used to having their pictures taken, are good at showing their perfect smiles to the camera and they are very photogenic.
Let me classify the types of smiles that I meet through my lens:
blissful smiles that I meet when I take wedding photography
children's innocent smiles
shy smiles
smiles of pleasant surprise
smiles full of emotions
and you know, people often smile while they are crying
And from any kinds of smile, we feel very positive vibes coming out of them, and the beautiful smiles will never-ever fade. Pictures of smiles always heal your hearts. Don't you think that the familiar sight looks very special when there is someone smiling in front of it?
Smile always makes the world shine out and makes us happy.
While writing this essay, I vividly remember what I was dreaming of when I started working as a photographer: travelling around the world, taking portraits of smiling people, and organizing an exhibition of smiles.
